House Mouse
House mice have a keen sense of hearing, taste, smell and touch. They are approximately 7-10 cms long excluding their tail. Signs of a House Mouse problem:
- Scratching noises, particularly under the floor or in the attic as they move around.
- House mice are most active at night but maybe seen during the day, looking for food.
- House mice leave dark droppings about 3mm long.
- They dribble urine onto surfaces and as a result have a charactaristicaly strong odour
- House mice gnaw on almost anything, e.g., electric cables, carpet, soap, insulation etc. They do this to keep their teeth sharp.
- You may find nibbled food packaging with teeth marks, especially cereal packets, although they will eat almost everything.
- They build nests in warm, hidden places using shredded material such as newspaper and fabric and near a food source, generally within about 3-7M from their nest.
WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE
House mice are brown, grey in colour with a light underside, large prominent ears and small black eyes. The tail is light in colour and is just shorter than the body in length.
REPRODUCTION
- House mice live for about 3-4months
- They are sexually mature at 6-8 weeks
- They have on average 5-8 litters per year, with 4-8 babies in each litter.
- A single female could produce on average 44 young in a year
- Therefore its offspring could produce up to two thousand of young in just one year..
IMPLICATIONS OF HAVING HOUSE MICE
House mice pose a risk of contracting Salmonellosis, Toxoplasmosis. And Hantaviral Infection. Associated medical conditions, such as headaches, migraine and depression can also be attributed to a mouse infestation.
HOW DO WE GET RID OF MICE?
As House mice feed at numerous places, we will install a large number of baiting points. The bait used contains anticoagulant. This bait will be provided in tamper proof bait stations in discreet areas, to help prevent access to household pets and wildlife.
